The hard drive in my old unit stopped working. leaving the entire unit in operable. The hard drive in the parts unit worked so I transferred my old disc drive into the new unit and it works, I haven't used this thing in 10 years and spent a lot of money and time on it. I'm so happy I could sing out and dance and make a fool of myself. Steve C

This is the best video/audio assy. ever for a person who does not want to be controlled by TIVO and wants to be able to save programs to a dvd. The internal hard drive and timer recording let me record my favorite programs to the hard drive and watch them when I want to. The HDD will hold up to 240 hours of programs depending on what quality you save them at. Then it will transfer them to a dvd if I want to save them permanently. I can watch a stored program while it records another one to the HDD. It has the "TV Guide" program listing for getting a list, description and time of TV programs transmitted by local on air stations. The sad thing is that I guess this feature will be gone when all the stations stop transmitting analog signals next year. This doesn't effect me because I don't use that feature because I record everything from my satellite receiver via the svideo and video audio input jacks. It is too bad that Sony does not still offer this type of recorder new. I don't think they advertised this product enough to make the public aware that it was available. I hope that more interest in this product will cause sony to start selling them again.Read full review
I'm a professional user. The best consumer DVD recorder you could get in the USA by far. The only DVD recorder I know of which has both input and output component video connectors (RGB) for the best video possible and excellent for professional applications. Recorder is easy to operate with or without the remote control. Very intuitive to use if you know your way around AV gear. If you need a hard drive DVD recorder with some professional attributes that is the most versatile and best model you can find anywhere new or used, this is the one.
My OLD Sony HX900 went kaput after 4 YEARS of DAILY use! Sony does not make this model any longer, so you have to find one that someone is willing to sell! I tried the more recent, higher model, but I could not get it to record properly. So the seller had an extra HX900 that he let me trade it in for and I couldn't be HAPPIER! It works GREAT, plus I didn't have a learning curve for a new device! Hope this one works for many many years since Sony and others are no longer making dvd recorders with HDDs! I guess they're in competition with Tivos! I much prefer this Sony and I don't have to pay any Tivo fees to DirecTV! The editing/recording/copying for dvds is FLAWLESS and so EASY! LOVE this! Wish I had another one for backup! I HIGHLY recommend this recorder IF you can find one!Read full review
