I got this book after looking at the competitors' books, such as the pie bible. Martha's book is fantastic. She provides four different pie crust variations, some sweeter or with nuts, as well as some presentational tips. She presents many tarts that feature fresh fruits and cream or pastry cream, with glazes, as well as many baked fruit and other pies. There are nice pictures that help to gauge what the final result should look like. The quality is like some of the best pastry places in New York City or Paris. This is a book for the person who wants fresh, natural-tasting, high quality pies and tarts.
I purchased the book a few weeks ago, and love the book. It has so many beautiful pies and tarts, with easy to follow directions. I have been baking for years and Martha Stewart has always been my inspiration. I think baking at home is becoming a "lost art" and think many more people should experience it.
This book is wonderful. Who would believe it is thirty years old? This book contains usual, as well as, unusual recipes for the most elegant pies and tarts. It is for the true gourmet cook. There are also instructions for pie and tart crusts and a section on delicious glazes for your creations. It is truly old-school Martha Stewart at her finest.
This book was written as Martha was climbing the success ladder, when she was more formal. The presentation of her receipes is very formal and the photos reflect that. TOO formal/finicky for me. I can honestly say, the recipes themselves are very good. She offers quite a variety of crusts and crust designs. They are just as interesting as the pie & tart recipes.
Excellent
