The distinctive about Schlage keypad deadbolts is the non-motorized bolt actuation. Having to manually turn the Schlage knob may seem like a chore compared the the automatic actuators. No deal! Do you know how hard it is to keep a door perfectly aligned as to have no friction for the deadbolt? Well, friction is the enemy of the fully actuated units from Schlage's competitors like Kwxxxxxx. The motors not only use battery life quickly, they fail completely when there is friction from a b a r e l y misaligned deadbolt. Holy frustration and security risk, Batman! Punch in your user-chosen 4 digit code, and a solenoid inside the Schlage engages for a few seconds to allow the manual turning of a lever, much like the old school deadbolts. Yes! One handed keyless door opening is now possible and proven to be reliable! My first unit has been operating for over 3 years ON THE SAME BATTERY. My second unit is also operating so well I smile each time I use it, thinking, I should have gotten this year ago! You can allow guests to enter your house in absentia, no more lost keys issues, and no more house keys scratching up your smartphone screen. A killer app. Read full review

The installation documentation adequately described the various steps needed to prepare and mount the lock device. What was noticeably missing, however, was any documentation on how, when and why to use the supplied key. Moreover, the on-line documentation on the Schlage web site was cumbersome to navigate, arcane in finding relevant information. Eventually, however, I came across information on this lock and learned that important programming information was not included in the assembly instructions. One example of frustrating incompleteness of the instructions: The instructions mentioned hearing a BEEP signal when certain setup actions were performed. However, I never heard BEEP signals and so I wondered if I'd done something wrong in the installation. I later learned that the BEEP signal is a programmable item, but how to accomplish that was not included in the instructions. In addition, the turning handle that moves the locking bolt is enabled and actually retracts the bolt, but only for a few seconds after the correct unlock code is entered. at all other times, this knob can be rotated endlessly to no useful purpose. The key slot is evident, but, as mentioned, how the key is used to lock/unlock the bolt or anything else, is not apparent and I haven't stumbled across a solution, despite quite a few hours and experimenting. I was quite disappointed with this Sclage product. I'd associated that name with high quality for many years. I think this product need more "user interface" product development, to include detailed observation of how directions are followed and how questions arising are resolved. Read full review

Checked it out when our church installed one for parking lot entrance. Straight forward installation. Worked well first time. Followed directions. Re-programmable program code, and room for plenty of guest codes. Overall, well satisfied with quality construction, fit, form, and finish. DG

It's a little chunky for my taste, but it functions as promised. It's a great solution for allowing access without the hassle of keys getting lost or forgotten. I can give my contractor a code, my dog walker another one, my guests another, and one for my wife and I. I wish it had some "smart" functionality, such as keeping a record of when certain codes are used. I only installed it a couple of weeks ago so I can't speak to battery life yet.

Everything as for install, shipping, and etc. was great. Product is not of At quality (B- at best). For example lock mechanism feels like it already is slipping or could break at any time. However looks great and is Conveient with kiddos.
