Not a good book to search for patterns since it doesn’t show all past patterns, however it does have a vast listing (and illustrations) of pieces I never knew were made. I collect Rogers “Old Colony” and found illustrations of pieces I never knew existed. With the limited availability of reference books on silverplate I definitely would buy this book!

New to silver flatware collecting and this book helps is patterns .

This book is a collection of reproduced advertisements and product brochures for some of the most popular silverplate patterns of the late 19th and 20th centuries. While these are potentially interesting to collectors, it is misleading to call this book an encyclopedia. Little information is given in most instances, although the section on the "Coronation" pattern has about a page of text, and the author has a few things of interest to say about grape-themed patterns. But if you are looking for a reference book on silverplate. or even an easy-to-use identification tool, this is not the book for you. The value guide is sketchy and in any case very outdated.

Book is well laid out and is clear and concise, easy to find what you are researching. Would be better if the entire book had actual pictures, instead of illustrations (it’s about 50/50). It’s in black and white, I would have preferred color. All & all, I would buy it again.
