This book is excellent. You and your children will be amazed at how many interesting things you learn and RETAIN! We use this book about 4 times a week during our "group school" time. We all sit at the table and I read the lesson (my children are 15, 12, 10, 8, and 6). We stop to discuss and sometimes do the activities (most often we do not do them). We always do the timeline figures and this has been one of the features of this curriculum that has helped my children (and me!) remember the people and events we have studied. It is very well planned. It takes me zero to one minute of prep time! We always mark the maps as well and they are hanging all over our walls. Everything is provided. The added addition of the audio CD this year is excellent as well - I am looking for it on ebay right now. We are a couple of lessons away from finishing volume one and I have volume 2 waiting on the shelf. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this product. I have recommended it to countless friends who are now using it as well and they all email me and rave over it. All I can say is "I told you so!"Read full review
I purchased this product for my homeschool Bible/ History 8th grade curriculum, and I love it. Everything is laid out step by step. My teens enjoy the short reading assignment, and they love the activities. I like the activities because it gives you three options, according to grade level;younger students, middle students and older students. Sometimes we do all the activites. The reviews are fun,as well as the pre-test. Its Bible and World History all in one. I have tried other options and felt like I wasted my money, but The Mystery of History is a great investment, I purchased it used and got it half the cost if it were new. I plan on using the next series for HighSchool. Deanna
I decided to buy "Mystery of History" because I had heard many great things about this curriculum. I will start using it with my children next school year so I haven't used it as of yet. What drew me to this book was the fact that it is based on a Biblical Worldview instead of a secular one. I like the notion that the "Mystery" in History is Christ Jesus Himself. Once we recognize that He is the missing link in every part of history it brings hope for the future.
I wish that there were more details in each lesson. It is enough to get you started. Good for 10yr old to research and figure out more. It is fine for my 6yr old to listen to the lessons but we'll probably go through it again in a few years to get more out of it. It takes some research on your own and really digging in to get all you can. Making the time-line, doing the memory cards. All the things she suggests are needed to get a full scope of the history.
I love how MOH is geared towards any aged student. Many in my circle suggested I wait, but after purchasing and going over it I’m so thankful I did. She gives specific details on how to adjust for younger students and then middle/high school aged. We plan to do the curriculum again and again as they continue their educational journey.
