I purchased my first fly rod/reel combo almost 50yr's ago, before I knew about rod/line weight, and slayed those Bass and Bluegill (strictly catch and release of course) in the small creeks and ponds in my area. This combo, as mentioned will last a lifetime. FISHING IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!

No fly rod is as good as this one. Trying to get any kind of decent cast is difficult. It is extremely heavy. By the time you buy backing, line, and leader you will have $70 in this thing. LL Beans entry level complete kit is less than $100.

Being a fisherman of over 50 years, I have bought and used all types of gear from cheap to expensive, which keeps my opinions realistic . This outfit is a very nice beginner, casual user and a great back up setup. The reel is nice, basic, but nice. The finish on the rod is excellent. I have seen worse quality on much more expensive gear. My primary fly combo is a Zebco unit that is over thirty years old and going strong. If you have tons of money to spend go someplace else. If you are looking for a nice setup for low funds, step right up and buy it , well worth the funds. IMHO

Tried it out in the Davidson river NC. Love it. I am a beginner fly fisher-women but have fished most of my life. I got the "roll going ".

Picked this up to start fly fishing. Decent rod, but the reel is a learning experience.
