Rincewind is back in this third installment in the Wizards storyline of Terry Pratchett's Discworld (see my guide regarding the various storylines). This time, he and luggage team up with Conina, the barbarian thief and daughter of Cohen the Barbarian from Light Fantastic; King Creosote, the up til recently richest man on the Disc; and Nijel, an unproven hero trying to make a name for himself so that he doesn't has to take over his father's grocery business. The world as we don't know it is in jeopardy again, and Rincewind is the unwilling, cowardly, pseudo-wizard who, through devastating chains of coincidence, is thrust into the role of savior. Again. But, rather than run from his destiny, this time Rincewind's conscience gets the better of him (after quite a bit of prodding and cajolery) and forces him to act. So he sets off to save the art of Wizardry, his home at Unseen University in particular, and the universe in general. If you liked the fast-paced action and quick wit of the other Discworld stories, you are sure to love this one as well. Pratchett is in rare form, as always (so is it common form, then?), combining wonderful wordplay with physical humor, and treating all stereotypes as his personal prosaic pincushion. If you haven't read any of the Discworld series yet, you may want to start with one of the beginner novels to any of the various storylines (again, my guide treats all that junk). This book, like the entire Discworld series, is highly recommended by me. And you should listen to me, because I always do, and it tends to work out most of the time.Read full review
This book, like all of Pratchett's work i've read thus far, is excellent beyond compare. There are very few books that i've read that actually make me laugh aloud as i read, and most of them only make me laugh occasionally. The books of Terry Pratchett, every single one of them, make me laugh aloud more often than every other author i've read combined. In addition to being hilarious, the books are insightful, intelligent, and occasionally even impart great wisdom. I would recommend every Terry Pratchett book to everyone who has even a moderate affinity for books.
If you're this far along that you're looking at the 5th book in the series, I don't have to tell you too much, you're already hooked. This time we're back at the Unseen University and there's a magical crisis, a big one! You'll meet some familiar characters, like Rincewind and the Luggage, some new ones, and some that you haven't met before but are related to the ones you know. Expect adventure, outrageous action, and witty dialog.

This is an excellent book! The entire Diskworld series is a wonderful escape into a world where the improbable happens every day. I love Terry Pratchett's humor and writing style! I would give it 3 thumbs up if I weren't limited to only having 2 opposable thumbs!
