BLUE is one part of director Krzysztof Kiewlowski's tour de force trilogy known as 'Three Colors'. The director himself may not be a familiar name to most outside of the movie industry, but he was known for a certain level of artistic intensity uncommon to most cinematic productions. The trilogy 'Three Colors' may only be loosely considered a common story in three parts; the three stories actually have a common theme only of romantic yearning, a search for closure and a new beginning for each of the main characters. In 'Blue', the wife of a famous European composer is suffering from a rather stoic episode of grief for her recently deceased husband. She quickly leaves behind as much as she can from their former life together...moving out of their home, discarding artifacts of personal memorabilia, etc. One is led to the suspicion that perhaps she didn't really love him, and maybe even had a hand in his demise. The deeper meaning of this very mature study in human nature (that fortunately lacks most of the modern-day trash elements of strong violence, explicit sex, etc.) is developed with true artistic feeling and entertains pretty well, creating an empathy for those who all those have suffered the loss of their closest companion, and even shining some light on the meaning of the word 'forgiveness'.Read full review
