Jack Nicholson stars as "bad ass" Buddusky, a petty officer assigned to take a young sailor to prison. On the way, he decides to show the kid a good time, leading to drama and hilarity along the way. I first seen The Last Detail on Turner Classic Movies during one night of channel surfing. I couldn't stop watching, and TCM doesn't take any commercial breaks. It was that good! I had to buy a copy on eBay, and I'm glad I did! I just finished it minutes ago, so it's still fresh on my mind. The only drawback has been the video quality. It's somewhat grainy, and it's hard to make out the characters in darker scenes. Overall, the film as a whole makes up for it. Five stars!Read full review
I hadn't seen this movie in decades. I saw in on ebay at a reasonable price and got it. No regrets. The movie was just as good as I remembered.

The Last Detail is a great movie. Anyone in the Navy will appreciate all it has to offer. Jack Nicholson has always been a fantastic actor but it is very evident in this movie. Nicholson plays SM1 Buddusky, a career sailor whom with another petty officer draw brig chaser duty to escort a seaman to Portsmouth Naval Prison after he receives 8 years and a Dishonorable Discharge. Buddusky and his cohort take pity on the incarcerated seaman and take him out along the way to let him experience life the way sailors live it. After multiple drunk fests and prostitutes, Buddusky feels that they only made matters worse by dangling a carrot. One memorable scene is when Buddusky picks a fight with 3 Marines in a DC bus station rest room, classic. If you are a fan of Jack Nicholson, then this movie should be a part of your DVD collection.Read full review
