If there is stuff missing (bought it but haven't received it yet) you can blame Comcast/NBC Universal for knowing that if you got complete episodes you'd never watch the current guys, and since they couldn't completely repress this awesome period of history, they tried to sit there and blow it up as best they could, to make people who weren't anywhere near Carson look better. I have heard this from several sources. I ordered the set after reading the unauthorized biography of Carson, and while I'm not expecting everything, I am expecting that I will get to see enough to sell me-also bought it used for $15 off, so that way if I don't like it I'm not feeling like a total idiot, and I will make every effort to like it. I just want enough to where I can sit there and forget about all the people who came after Carson. If I get that, it will be money well spent. If I don't, I'll find someone unsuspecting. The one thing I do have going for me is I wanted episodes that are mostly in the 80s and right before Carson retired, which is what one reviewer said it primarily focused on. (I have a 128k with a Plus upgrade available for it, so I'm more interested in Burbank than New York (according to what I heard most of the New York shows were taped over due to the high cost of professional videotape in the early modern era of taped programming.) Thank you other reviewers and I hope to have a positive experience.Read full review
This is the most disappointing TV DVD Set I have ever purchased! First and foremost... "Episodes" are NOT complete, some are only as long as 20 minutes!!! If you are a vintage TV on DVD collector and like your shows complete, you will be left with one big empty feeling with this set. When the first seasons of "Saturday Night Live" came out, I was thrilled to see that they were complete shows - from opening credits to the classic endings with the cast and guest stars all saying goodnight. I was really looking forward to this set, expecting to watch the great shows I remembered - from start to finish! What you get is basically the opening monologue, the guest interviews and then the "episodes" just knid of end, fading back into the DVD menu! WTF?! I know it's been awhile, but I remember much more going on than this - where are the endings? I thought $60 was a great deal as I have seen this set in stores for over $100... but this set isn't worth $30! Why do the people who put these kind of sets out feel the need to chop them up? Don't they know that it is all the little nuances, the in-betweens, and not-so important moments that make these shows great - and that's what really provides a nice trip down memory lane. NOT this chopped up, edited down stupidity. Remember the "Carol Burnett Show"? Take away those great endings (I'm so glad we had this time together...) - And it's just not the same... or complete!!! So if you are expecting to buy this and see the shows as they were originally broadcast... you are going to be really disappointed. These shows are NOT complete and only leave you with an empty feeling as it just ends and fades back into the main menu. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!Read full review
Better selection of material. Far too filled with lame babbling guests and removed musical guests. Looked forward to seeing some well remembered bits and saw very few. No Ed Ames, no clapper capper, etc.

I am 3/4 the way through the set and I am enjoying seeing one of my all time favorite programs again. However... the editing leaves a little to be desired. In some episodes Johnny introduces a special guest who is to appear after a commercial break and the program totally skips the guest and you are on to the next guest when the program resumes. It is frankly annoying when it occurs. Also, many of my favorite sketches and moments seem to be missing. I suppose this is for another special release or release number 4, 5, 6 and so on. The editor and I are not in agreement of what programming moments should be in the set and what isn't. So I give this 3 stars and leave you with the thought that they are going to milk this cow more ways than one. -MJH
Bought this as a Christmas present for my 91 year old dad. He’s watched the first disc at least 5 times in a row. He loves it and I’m so happy to have found it. Came very quickly, in great shape and a good price.
