Helen Mirren is one of my all time favorite actors and she provides us with an outstanding performance as Prospero in this unique version of Shakespeare's work. I am a real fan of Shakespeare's work on film (Richard III, Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, et al) as his plays were meant to be acted not read. Mirren brings to life desperation, loss, rage, love, and restoration in the soul of the movie as I've never seen accomplished before. It is a movie that is well worth watching even if you're not a fan of Shakespeare. My advice is to let the words wash over you and allow yourself to feel what the actors feel then you may begin to understand his genius. A truly remarkable tale and unfortunately his last. Blessed be Laura Paton

DVD was great movie to watch. The play was as close as possible to how Shakespeare had written it. Watching it scene by scene is worth watching to see how they build on each other. Its actors played their roles.

Julie Taymor's production is a beautiful contemporary rendering of The Tempest with an all-star cast and dazzling special effects, easily the best film presentation of this Shakespeare work. Magic from start to finish.
