When I had first seen this movie, it was freshman year of high school in my Latin class. I had fallen head over heals in love with it, but I had no success in finding it in any video store. So when I found it on half.com, of COURSE I had to buy it! It's a wonderful movie, mostly because it's not the stereotypical Epic-of-Rome like, say, Spartacus or Gladiator are. This movie is an honest-to-goodness comedy! It has every type of humor throughout the film, and it has a whole slew of famous cast members, including Zero Mostel of The Producers fame; Buster Keaton, who was a force to reckon with in the silent film era; and Michael Crawford in one of his first roles before he became the famed Phantom of the Opera. All of these actors, plus comedians who were famous at the time, make this movie a delight for anyone, no matter your sense of humor!Read full review
I have been a fan of this film since 1980's when we first rented it back then. My sister and I would watch it; maybe our favorite part was Zero Mostel doing the singing yodeling Kantor bits when Buster Keaton was looking for a soothsayer maybe that one and the Senex and Domina the word play between them and the silly stuff that he was able to convey in his brilliant acting. The script was perfect the only problem I found was in the last viewing I noticed again and again it seemed as if more than one director was putting together this film. Like the part where Pseudolus is running around up on a walkway and his silent courtesan begins motioning to him some kind of pantomime but by the way it is shot you see only a portion of a shot crammed with another one. The other part that seemed to not fit was the part where Hero was going to throw himself to the lions and the fellow being taught how to Gladiate missed the throw to kill the "hero" of the story. I get it maybe production delays didn't allow for reshoots. Anyhow all things being equal it still outshines anything that Hollywood could attempt to put out. Please Hollywood don't try to remake this movie. It cannot be even close to say even a third grade elementary attempt to equal it's grandeur. Read full review

Excellent quality of sound and picture, I wish they still made movies of this kind today.

Saw it when I was a kid and it was great. Still is. So many wonderful actors in it and it was so funny. Great to laugh again like that.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a comedic play brought to the silver screen with an all-star cast centered around Zero Mostel. This film is packed with humour, fast-paced, and a great time. Nearly every time you see it, you notice something you missed before. Catchy music, great actors, a deliciously absurd plot, and a fantastic chariot race make this one of the best comedies of all time.
