The first time i saw this film was when my girlfriend at the time wanted to see it because Richard Gere was in it. So i stopped arguing and we went, i was not prepared to be physically attacked by her during various scenes. Julie Roberts is a beautiful woman, and she has a wry sense of humor, she is also a damn good actress. Now every time this film is on TV, i choose to watch it, and enjoy the hell out of it. I especially enjoy watching Jason Alexander getting the HECK beaten on by Gere. This is a well written film, with a good script, good supporting cast.

This was the movie that propelled Julia Roberts' career into stardom. She plays the part of a small-town Georgia girl who having followed a local "bad boy" to Los Angeles some time ago, is now living life precariously as a street prostitute on Sunset Blvd. Richard Gere is also in LA. He is a "robber baron" who attacks businesses that are in "cash" trouble, but otherwise are worth much more in property value, than their future business potential. He goes in, and in a hostile takeover, assumes control of these companies, breaks them up and sells off the pieces for a substantial profit. He is in LA to do exactly that to a local shipbuilding firm. On the advice of his attorney, a similar scum-bag, he is looking for a date to accompany him to social events with his business targets. While heading back to his hotel, he stops and asks for directions from Roberts who is hooking on a street corner. She gets in for twenty dollars to show him how to get where he is going. He propositions her, and decides to hire her for a week to also be his date. In the next couple of days, he buys her clothes and rents jewelry, and finds that there is an interesting and complex woman living inside this emotionally damaged person. In the course of the week, a sort of Cinderella Story comes to life, and they find themselves in love with each other. This was a fun movie, and I enjoyed it very much.Read full review
I love the acting. The theme in itself is not really new, but the script (conversations) is deep. I have seen this movie quite a few times, but every time there is a newdetail to be found. As a keen admirerer of especially Mrs. Julia Roberts you notice her talents and their development, always growing. Mr. R. Greer who I surely also admire is a strong actor calling out Mrs. Roberts' art. There is more than a story to it. To me it is one of the classics and therefore wished to have it so that in due time even my grandchildren can see it. In the psychological sense it conveys how passion works and when this grows to love it can convert a personality. The "erotic" element is blended into a non-offensive mixture. Even "social class" and conventional morals and prejudice are transcended. Absolutely no dislikes! Only if subtitles had been added it would be more accessible for visually impeded persons and those of my family who do no ily who are not familiar with English. . Thank you and the seller. (Your spell scecker is cauing me some trouble, so sorry if there is som disorder.)Read full review

We watched this movie on VHS, but it was with bad quality. I decided to update and bought the DVD. Excellent quality and there are even additional moments that were not on the VHS version. I am happy!
