Written by the same guy who illustrated "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" this book is another good choice if you are looking for a title that will fascinate and amuse the young child. Illustrates the progression of a caterpillar from a little egg to a tiny caterpillar to a BIG fat caterpillar as it "eats" and "eats" each day, which is represented by little "holes" in the pages! Children won't be able to resist touching the little holes (they are not big enough for little fingers to poke through) and in this way the book is quite interactive. The colorful illustrations are appealing to a young child as well. The only problem I have with the book is that it is a bit unrealistic from the science standpoint. Caterpillars don't normally eat such things as Swiss cheese, chocolate cate and sausage. It would have been nice to see an additional element of teaching real science to the child by illustrating a more realistic scenario of what might really take place in nature. However, had the author done so, the book probably wouldn't have been quite as entertaining or colorful. The book succeeds in engaging the very young child into the story and promoting a love for reading, and for that, I give this book five stars; it would make an excellent addition to any young child's library.Read full review
This book was a good read after I realized I am not supposed to think but just enjoy the book. Reading this book is like watching (good) television. However, if I was a child, I would be totally confused. Where did the egg come from? Why is he so hungry? A good teacher would give a wise answer or if they are willing to spend the month explaining what is going on then they should take the time to do so. Otherwise don’t read the book to your children.

This book brings alot of joy and entertainment to both of my children. The book also helps with the social aspects, counting and learning the days of the week for a childs development. I have found this book to be quite an added bonus to my childrens collection. The little story of the tiny caterpillar who looks for some food and then changes in a matter of a week into a beautiful butterfly, also explains to children how an animal can build a tiny home and change to a different animal again.
We bought this book for our twin girls to read to them and with them. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a true classic that I remember enjoying myself as a child, so wanted my children to experience that same enjoyment. It is a very short, simple to read book with a fantastic storyline and great colourful art work which our girls just love. It is just one of those books that should be in every child's book collection and I would recommend it to anyone. It is suitable for reading as early as you like as a parent right through to primary school ages.
Great illustrations and color. Children love this book. I bought it for my daughter, who is now 32. We were Christmas shopping in a bookstore and she saw the book and said, "remember this?" This was a book she had had read to her in pre-school. She stated how much she loved that book, so I thought it would be a great stocking stuffer for her to continue reading it to other children and to give her happy memories every time she reads it.
