Seldom has the normally boring genre of Biography seemed to ignite a firestorm on both sides of the Liberal and Conservative fence. On Nov. 17th the much anticipated Sarah Palin's autobiography (penned with help) was released. It's almost impossible to conceive that all of the Palin news has occured within the short space of one year. Palin was demonized continually by those who saw her as a female Dan Quayle. This book largely was written to do two things: - help pay for her $2 million lawyer fees from having to defend 15 seperate gubernatorial violations, all of which, quietly, have vindicated her. She explains in the book that she doesn't feel too guilty about leaving her governor's position since she was forced, in her personal life, to have to defend herself from frivalous lawsuits. In any case, this book should raise more than enough to settle the score financially. - The right to answer her critics. In her eyes, she was held back from politically answering several misspeaks, concession speechs at the end, responding to internal conflicts with McCain, and even being able to finally address the slanderous blogging (i.e. the daughter's baby REALLY being Palin's, which has to be the Democrats equivalent of believing in the Obama Birther theory.) She talks about her heart was torn when she heard that her daughter was pregnant, but notified the Republican Party immediately, apparently to stave off any impending scandal, which happened anyway despite all the Republican's efforts to make it sound like a normal American social problem of teen pregnancy. Palin describes her own pregnancy, and how she even contemplated the pros and cons of succumbing to pro-choice if need be. In the end, her faith guided her decision to keep the baby, but the anguish she writes about is real, and something millions of other women have faced. Is the book a 'Complainer document' as claimed by some? The Left will say yes, and will largely read only blogs to get the gist of the book. The Right will be split down the middle on this issue. There is little doubt that she has the right to set the record straight since during most of the campaign, there were internal gag orders on not rocking the boat. So what is the No Spin synopsis of this book? It's an insiders look at how quickly and dangerously politicans can suddenly be brought to life in the national spotlight; it's about the infighting, and how to keep face even when losing; it's about family loss, it's an answer to a threat, a look at what extreme rural America lives like and how events can spiral out of control with painful personal results. There are NOT a bunch of segments of political platforms, or points of views. Palin critics will probably say that the book is not literate enough, that there's not too many deep thoughts in it, and probably an overemphasis of emotional discussions. But that is Sarah Palin- and she represents, to many, the other Forgotten Half of the country that is NOT in a major city or has New York, Chicago or LA values. Maybe that's why she is hated so much from the networks which are ALL located in either Los Angeles or New York city. They can't relate to her, and call her phony. Well, she decribes a totally different point of view of the other side of the mirror. The Republican ROOKIE OF THE YEAR has a long way to go to get her credibility back, but I see nothing outrageous in this book that will stop that from being repaired. by Jeff FeezleRead full review
I bought the book to make a book 'character' doll from found objects. I also found eBay helpful in my purchase of a small Sarah gun to either shoot bears with or simply be tacked between the pages of the book art doll. To create a Sarah skirt, simply fold down the page from top to half way down page by individual page. Unfolded part of page eventually creates a skirt rim or edge. Additionally eBay offered a nodder doll of Sarah with head simply removed with wire cutters . Art doll is then finished off with the insertion of a dowel rod down the book spine and the head glued on the top of the dowel. Voila! Great to take to yor book club or create conversation with others. Do ignore content of the book itself for those discussions, however. Just a cautionary note to 'readers'.
1. Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor's office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republican's "Corrupt Bastards Club" (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing, "la la la la" (well, you know how they are). 2. Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called "ACES." Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them, "don't let the door hit you in the stern on your way out." They stayed, and Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course, the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. 3. The other thing she did when she walked into the governor's office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as "pork." She went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in the "when-hell-freezes-over" stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, we'll pay for it ourselves.. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governor's jet because it was extravagant. Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor's cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State provided security force (never mentioning - I imagine - that she's packing heat herself). 4. Now, even with her much-ridiculed "gosh and golly" mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn't impress you, then you're trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand. 5. For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn't start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started. Then, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again. 6. President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewables by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But that's just a cover-up. I'm still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I won't be holding my breath. By the way, she was content to return to AK after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn't let her. Now these adolescent screechers are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda.Read full review
This is the first political biography that I have ever read that I actually ENJOYED. Sarah Palin talks a little about her childhood, and teenage years, but focuses more on the later years. What is so amazing is how she has worked all of her life. The reason it took her 5 years to finish college is that she paid her way. There were times when she had to wait out a semester so she could work to save money for another semester. That is so much like my family. I am wanting to go to college, but I am not expecting someone ELSE to pay my bill. If I am going to go through college, I am going to be paying for my education! I just got my book today, and already I have read to page 104. I can't wait to finish this book! Sarah Palin is a great example of the AVERAGE American. Tired of BIG government, corruption, etc. However, she has gone above and beyond what the average American does. She DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT! She is not afraid to stand for what is right. I have been interested in politics since 2004. However, my interest had died off between 2005-2007. But when 2008 came around with McCain's pick of SARAH PALIN, I got excited once again! Sarah Palin has inspired me, and I know she has inspired many Americans. Sarah Palin stands FOR the PEOPLE. She doesn't have her hand in our wallets like so many crooks in politics. She is giving BACK to our country. I hope Sarah Palin runs in 2012. If she does, she will have me support and vote. Oh, and just a side note. All those politicians out there that have forgotten the ones who put them in, and are more focused on what they can take from us and how they can control us: Guess what? Come 2010, they are going OUT the door! It's time for politicians like Sarah Palin. God Bless Sarah Palin! By the way - Please excuse me if the words are broken up. My computer was giving me trouble! Here's an update. I have finished Sarah Palin's book. I actually finished it several weeks ago, but am just now getting to update the review. Every single page I read, I understood and liked Sarah Palin more. I do not see why people don't like her, other than the fact that she speaks TRUTH, and there are some people don't want to hear the truth. For instance, the clothes during the campaign. She did not ask to have those purchased for her and was upset to see the prices on the different clothing items. Her family kept asking people about the clothes and they were told that everything was taken care of. Sarah Palin said she is more than happy with off brand clothes from discounted places. In fact, she was upset that she could not wear HER clothes! So many people are just buying into what the biased media tells us. Also, another fascinating thing was, when she became Governor of Alaska, she got rid of the personal chef in the Governor's mansion to SAVE taxpayers' dollars. What other politician do you know that has done that? If you don't understand Sarah Palin, READ THIS BOOK! If you don't want to buy it, check it out from the library, but I DO recommend buying it! If you don't know anything about Sarah Palin, DON'T bash her! Read her life story!Read full review
The unprecedented army of attorneys and investigators sent to Alaska to find dirt on Governor Palin when she was announced as a Vice Presidential candidate, the unbelievable negative attacks by the news media against her and her pregnant daughter, continuing news attacks after the election and even the platoon of investigators to review her book and attempt to disprove its content that all proved fruitless, that heve never been done to another author, all have verified the books veracity and made me buy it to find out more of this woman. I found the book to be refreshing, heartwarming and an inspiration for all that love the American way of life. Sarah Palin's life from childhood typifies the independent laboring family up bringing and competitive efforts that demonstrate true character and genuine values in good and hard times. Her willingness to love her position in life, her family, neighbors, community, state, environment, nation and God are not fake political photo shoots as we see daily. Her detailed explanations of conflict with government officials at every level and her ability to cope and accomplish what others never dreamed of doing are remarkable. All while being a married woman and mother confronted with conflict to include her own political party. I was amazed to learn of the intense concern and care practiced by Mrs. Palin and everyone around her about the environment and even the hunting of wildlife. The news media led us to believe the contrary as though she was a reckless hunter with disregard for the environment. Similarly, actions taken by her as Governor were falsely reported and or not reported by the news media to cast negative images of her that have now convinced me to suspect major news reporting. Even a personal letter she authored to her family that announced her pregnancy and the Down's Syndrome of her child that was fashioned as God blessing them all was reported as though she was mentally ill and was perceiving herself as God. Rather than go further into detail with this amazing biography, I leave it to the reader to follow her through the presidential campaign and judge for yourself what an amazing individual this genuine American woman of true grit is. Having read this book, I am convinced Sarah Palin is the real thing capable of serving in any elected position with honor, integrity and experience to include the Office of the President of the United States of America.Read full review
