This historical fiction was very interesting. The young 17 year old Scott Pendleton Collins takes off to serve in the Battle of Normandy. At his going away party, his uncle gives him a journal. Scott keeps his journal of the war and gives us a firsthand experience of what it must have been like for a young serviceman to leave his home and country and face such a dangerous battle. My son enjoyed reading this book and looks forward to more of the My America books. Walter Dean Myers, the author, kept my son's attention with his writing style and helped him to learn some very important facts about times during World War II. It is a must read for any boy 8+.
First hand account of life in the war! True nerve rattling accounts written by an American hero! Don't pass this up!

A nice and readable first-hand account of one soldier's experiences during World War II. I bought this for my middle school child, and he really enjoyed it.
