It's now history. The film is a vintage classic. It's a good film for those that appreciate history. The film is ahead of it's time. We had a good generation of people back when.

This is perhaps John Ford's finest WW2 movie. It is the moving story of the loss of the Philippine Islands to the all-conquering Japanese in the grim early days of the war in the Pacific. John Ford served in the US Navy during WW2, and I think this movie is his tribute to all the ordinary fighting men and women of World War 2. John Wayne and Robert Montgomery both give top-notch performances as PT boat commanders, as does Donna Reed as an Army Nurse. There is not much glory here, just true heroism in the performance of duty. Beautiful cinematography, and a good script, based loosely on real events. I just wish Wayne's character would have disobeyed orders at the end, and gave up his seat on the last plane out. After you watch the movie, you'll understand why.
This movie is unusual because Hollywood actually stuck to the FACTS as far as I know. If younger generations do not see it, they will miss an important part of U. S. history.
