LFO's 2001 project is a bit different from their 1999 debut. Infact, I didn't even like this album much when I first bought it since it was so different from their amazing debut. However, after giving it a few more listens, it developed into one of my favorite albums of all time. The R-N-B and Hip-Hop influences that dominated their 1st album are now equally shared in this genre bending album that includes it all. Acoustic and Rock touches are mixed with Hip-Hop and a dash of soul. The album opens with "Every Other Time." The 1st single off the album brought their new sound to the people and proved to be a big hit. The clever wittyness many loved on their 1st album is found in this song. "28 Days" is a fun rock song with a Hip-Hop foundation featuring lyrics dealing with stuborn love. "6 Minutes" is one of my favorite songs off the album. The story telling lyrics will remind you of old school Hip-Hop placed over top a upbeat pop-rock sound. "Alayna" features Hip-Hop legends De La Soul on this Hip-Hop/Pop mash-up about forbidden love. "Erase Her" was the b-side to "Every Other Time" and features a unique sound that I can't even put into words. "Dandelion" is a acoustic heavy gritty song about Rich falling in love with a girl who ends up not being who he thought she was. At the end of the album you'll hear a version of this song featuring R-N-B singer Kelis which takes the song to a new level with her playing the girl he falls for. "Life Is Good" is the 2nd single off the album which the lable put out months later than they should after pulling the plug on their video. The rock heavy riff features hardcore Hip-Hop group M.O.P. This song is like nothing you've ever heard. The subject matter of how complicated life can be will touch a listener from any background. "Where You Are" is what I feel is the weakest song on the album. This upbeat pop rock song is definitly fun to sing along to though. "What If" is one of my favorite songs on the album. The mid-tempo soulful vibe may remind you of something off their 1st album. The song has the guys longing after a girl that seems untouchable. "If I Had A Dollar" has Devin's smooth vocals asking a girl when she's gonna leave the guy she's with since she always talks about it, but never delivers. Smooth soulful pop with a dash of an island feel to it. "Gravity" is an acoustic rock meets Hip-Hop song that has Rich talking about how gravity being the only thing that keeps him grounded when his life hits a high point. "That's The Way It Is" reminds me of how every guy feels when his girl wants to talk about stuff he doesn't wanna talk about. Guys will love this song. "The Sun Still Shines" may be the best song on the album. It's a soulful pop song about lost love. When you go through something that lets you identify with this song, you won't be able to stop listening to it. It's amazing how the rock influence of this album turned me off in the beginning..and how it eventually turned into one of my favorite albums. LFO's creative writing and down-to-earth lyrics are something anyone will be able to interpert for their own. Their way of mixing so many music genres is nothing short of amazing. The guys are on an "indefinity hiatus" from their career as a group (they stay busy on solo projects) with a desire to reunite someday. In the meantime, get both of their albums a try something new.Read full review
