This is a remake of the Ginger Rogers/David Niven movie BACHELOR MOTHER. Both versions are very good; both Ginger and Debbie are perfect for the part of Polly Parrish, a salesclerk who finds an abandoned baby and is assumed by everyone to be his unwed mother. If not for BACHELOR MOTHER, I might have rated BUNDLE OF JOY excellent. It suffers by comparison due to the addition of musical numbers that drag out what should be a snappy, fast-moving plot. I usually like musicals, but the songs in BACHELOR MOTHER are forgettable, and some feel forced into the film simply to showcase Eddie Fisher. For example, a radio show does a feature on father-and-son department store moguls, and the host asks the son (Fisher) to play the piano and sing! A few scenes that logically lend themselves to song, such as the New Year's Eve dance and Debbie entering a dance contest, are curiously music-free. Still a good movie; watch both versions & decide for yourself.Read full review
Surely I am not alone in thinking this is one of the most ghastly transfers Warner Archive have foisted upon buyers as a !"Remastered Edition"?. Picture is fuzzy, lacking in detail, and drained of colour. Looks like this "remaster" came from an ancient VHS tape!

I enjoy the old movies. They are truly Romance Books. Books today have a lot of cussing and a LOT of sex. I love this movie!!
