this covers very well what made the man and the characters he created. i have lived in many places before moving to the area where schulz is from and the characters are definitely derived from the MN population - their differences stand out compared to the US population - and this book is a sound foundation for understanding that and for understanding the man himself - although i have to say, with authority, it is much clearer to witness it first hand...often being hard to believe. but this book is the second best. could not have asked for better - considering i had the background to understand every word of it.

Man, this is a big book...Everyone enjoyes peanuts, and it was kind of nice to see how he got started, the inspirations for the strip, etc...but you really have to hang in there at times to get through it...A lot of research went into this book, so if you are not really into the peanuts, it's not for you, as there is a lot of info that unless you are a devout peanuts fan, you won't really care about
The book traces Charles Shulz' life and does it with great detail. The bizarre twist: Shulz was very depressed most of his life and still turned out cartoons that never lose their charm. In fact Shulz once said that to be a good cartoonist one needs to be unhappy!
