This book is more than fantastic; I would call this culturally necessary for childhood! AND PLEASE NOTE there is a follow-up book titled "Another Monster At The End of This Book." This book features page after page of Grover begging you not to turn another page so that you and he do not come face to face with the monster at the end of the book. My littlest loves to have this story read to him, as each of our children has, but his older brother has eagerly taken on the role of reading. I owned this book as a child, the Golden Book cover is gone and the title page ripped... AND I still have that copy in my cedar chest. BUT I was thrilled to find it still published and on a shelf at Target where I could buy a readable loveable copy for our children. Here's the best part I must tell you, I've never seen anyone sit and read this book who didn't find themselves slipping into the voice of grover as they read. Sure sometimes you come off sounding like Yoda - but this is a magical book with a magical world that transforms reading time into something awesome and inspiring. Don't miss out, whether you have children in your home or watched Sesame Street as a child - don't miss out and run out and buy it for every child you know. They will always treasure it!Read full review
My sister and I absolutely LOVED this book when we were little. When I had my first baby, I was thrilled to see that this now comes in a board book edition! (This would have come in handy when I was much younger, as my sister and I smashed chocolate cake inside our own Little Golden book version one day.) The book demonstrates Grover's fear of monsters, and he begins by politely asking readers NOT to turn the pages of the book. As the story progresses, he attempts to make barriers with bricks, rope, and other materials. Little ones love the excitement the book builds as they approach the end of the story. There, waiting for them at the end, IS a monster...but it's their loveable, furry old pal Grover. A cute and funny story that will invoke squeals of delight from your three and four year olds.Read full review
My daughter loved this book when she was a small child. It contains one of Sesame Streets most adorable characters, Elmo. She would want it read to her most of the time. And now as a 21 year old, she wondered where her book was. Possibly given away long ago. So I found it again and intend to give it to her for Christmas. Then she will have it for her child someday. This one book sticks out in her mind since she loved it so back then. I myself enjoy reading it now. I love little Elmo, my favorite character. Elmo makes you laugh throughtout this book. I received it in perfect condition and immediately opened it up to read it. It teaches them that there are no monsters, just little Elmo.
My grandchildren love this book. I ordered 3 copies of what I thought were very good used Lityle Golden Books. When I received them I had two story board books for very young children and one Little Golden Book with stickers pasted on the front of it. All were unfit for giving as gifts. I was very disappointed in my order!

I was invited to a baby shower that asked to bring a beloved book instead of a card. This was 1 of my daughter's favorites when she was very young. I also said in the note to the new parents that it MUST be read in Grover's voice! I was delighted to find it so nicely priced and w/free shipping! Thanks for so often having exactly what I need/want! C. Howard
