I had all the L M Montgomery books except this and Rilla of Ingleside. I hadn't read them for years until recently when I was ill. I read them again because I thought they would make easy reading as I wasn't in the mood to concentrate too hard on a new book. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was much I had missed in the first reading. These books follow the life of a young girl living on Prince Edwards Island in Canada from the time she was adopted at ten years old until her children are grown up at the end of the first world war. As well as being a good story there is a lot of background information of life in Canada during those times before and during the war. The books are quite emotional and even a tiny bit twee at times but nevertheless make a fascinating read.
