I really loved this movie. I watched it several months ago and enjoyed it. The other day, however, I received an email from a company that let me know the music score was now available. This prompted me to both download the score and see the movie once again. I think I enjoyed the movie even better the second time. I rented this the first time based on the plot outline. I haven't been a Demi Moore fan since that horrid horrid movie she did a few years ago where she had two lives-- one in America, one in France. Oh, she was just horrible in that even-more horrible movie! I really decided then and there that I wasn't a fan and she could not act. But, she did an excellent job in this role. I think what makes this movie so interesting-- and even better the second time-- is that there is a real mix of supernatural phenomena combined with non-supernatural. It can be a bit confusing at first, since the viewer is not sure if he or she is witnessing ghostly events or not. What sets this movie apart from so many others is the ambience. Yes, it was beautifully filmed. But, even more so, the story moved along. There were so many things happening, so many interesting twists. Never, however, did the movie overwhelm the senses. It was quiet, serene, peaceful, yet always moving forward. Everything worked very well together. Finally, the cast was really first rate. Hans Matheson was excellent. I am looking forward to seeing him again and plan to rent Deathwatch next (he's in that). And, the others were excellent, too.Read full review
I purchased this DVD not knowing anything about the premise of the film. The intrigue was soley to see another work of Hans Matheson. He is not exceptionally well known as an actor but has an impressive body of work to his credit. The setting of the film is breathtaking, an a serene scenic seascape. I wanted to be a part of it because of the beauty alone. The acting on Demi Moore's part was not terribly impressive to be fair, but Hans was enchanting to both watch and listen to even when his character does a 180. The story is entertaining enough though not a top notch piece. But I am still pleased I purchased it as I found much pleasure in simply seeing such lovliness on the screen before me.
This movie is Good & surprised me, it is a thriller, a mystery movie with ghosts, set in England & Scotland, mainly in a very small rurual area of 120 or so population which I found intriguing. The scenery is Oceanic, mystic, full of artistic photography & beautiful. There are some heart pounding frightening scenes without a lot of gore & some fun as well, in trying to solve the mystery as it begins to unravel. Demi Moore gives an Excellent acting performance & still looks great for her age, giving older woman a wonderful positive prospectus.
Half Light is rated R and running time is 110 minutes. This movie is an excellent spooky suspense thriller starring Demi Moore as Rachel. Several months following her sons accidental drowning, Rachel finds a small fishing village to move to thru the help of her best friend. Leaving her husband behind she hopes to find solitude and rest. She is a well known mystery writer and struggles to continue her writing as she is haunted by her son's ghost, threatening her sanity. She meets the light house keeper and falls in love. Life holds some hope again until she finds out that he has been dead for 7 years, threatening her sanity further. The whole town is shocked by her story of the light house keeper. Rachel's life is threatened in this supernatural murder mystery.
In London, the successful novelist Rachel Carlson is married with the mediocre aspirant writer and great editor Brian and they live in a comfortable apartment with her son Thomas Carlson. While writing a new novel, Rachel forgets the back gate open and Thomas drowns in a lake. Eight months later, Rachel is still disturbed and she decides to move alone to a seaside cottage in Ingonish Cove, a very small coastal Scottish village. Sarah decides to visit the lighthouse in the island close to her house to help in her research for the book, where she meets the lighthouse keeper Angus McCulloch. Not going to tell what happens next you'll just have to watch the movie. I enjoyed it alot. a must for your DVD collection..... (Mrs. puman)
