The Graflex XL is a medium format, modular designed press camera from Graflex. It was introduced 1965 and was the last camera designed by Graflex. The XL is a complete system with 120 and 220 roll film backs, ground glass viewing, 70mm back, Polaroid back, 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 Grafmatic film holder and standard 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 cut film holders. The system has a range of spacers for copy and macro work. The camera usually has a pistol grip and a standard Graflite flash mount. Viewing includes through the view finder or with an accessory sports finder. In the system there is a wide range of excellent lenses from 47mm to 180mm. The lens mounts have three plastic lugs that interface with the rangefinder, these lugs are often broken and missing which is a serious problem for functionality. The camera body has three versions the XL Rangefinder, XL Standard and the XL Wide Angle. When new in 1965 the XL sold for $538.00. The XL will create excellent film images and is a very enjoyable camera to use or collect, because of the extensive system of lenses and accessories that are available. Graflex XL brochures and literature are also very collectible perhaps because of the extensive system choices as well. If you take your Grafex XL out into the street you can be certain that it will generate much interest and attention. It's a great tool for breaking the ice and will help you get a "Yes" when you ask someone for permission to photograph them. The XL is visually very interesting so it is also a great camera to display.Read full review
