If you like BLING, if you like cowboys, if you like Country Western, if you like movie and singing stars, if you like a rags to riches story, then this book is for you! It is FULL of pictures and has a nice easy (and at times funny) reading style. This true story is very inspiring and I only wish I had been one of the many who met the man and his wife. I have never seen one of his creations up close but the photos are enough to make me get out my sewing machine and rhinestone setter and get creative. Thank you Jamie Lee and Mary Lynn for allowing us a peek at such wonderful people.
A poor immigrant boy with an American vision. It wasn't just country & western stars wearing his suits, but it was a start. Nudie (Nuta Kotlyarenko) once said "Someday your going to eat my dust" and he was right. In 1957 he made a gold lame suit for Elvis that cost $10,000.00 and the list just got better. Rolling stones, Cher,ZZ top, and how about the oldies if you'll old enough to remember Rex Allen, Gene Autrey, Porter Wagner,Little Jimmy Dickens, & a host of celebrities that would make your head spin. This is a book with a blast from the past & photos to make you reminisce of days gone by. Who would have guessed that a poor little Russian boy who rose to world wide recognition, but a boy with vision.
This book is really enjoyable for the great costume pictures and the amazing journey of this man from immigrant to Hollywood and his career as "the rodeo tailor." I was vaguely aware of this man before I bought the book but I had no idea of just how many people he created outfits for. I originally bought the book looking for rare pix of Gram Parsons. I didn't find them but I found a wonderful story and a new awareness of just how many divergent people this man created works of art for. My personal favorites are the pix on pg 18 of Mr Cohn and family in costume with a lovely little peke at their feet and pg 94 Mrs Cohn in a really beautiful dress. Buy this book you will learn something you didn't expect. Carolyn Hoyt
Excellent history of Nudie. Having met him in Hollywood and giving us a ride in one of his vehicles in the sixties it brought back many memories. My father was a good friend of Nudie who was his tailor in his early days in Minnesota.
