This 1957 film version has very little to do with the original Broadway show of 1927 which starred Fred and his sister Adele Astaire except a few Gerhswin songs augmented by new songs by such Hollywood stalwarts such as Roger Edens and Leonardo Gershe (especially the ebbuliant "Think Pink" and "Bonjour Paris").. Fred Astaire here is a worldly-wise photographer who falls for the captivating beauty (gorgeously and often exploited) of Audrey Hepburn. The story is predictable and a bit drawn out but no worse than the typical Hallmark love story. The real surprise is Kay Thompson, a behind-the-scenes-in-Hollywood person who rarely appeared onscreen. She's splendid as the pushy magazine publisher looking for something new and different, and I wish she'd been used onscreen more often. I watched a few scenes over again just to watch her in action. Some of the photography is mushy and mismatched (the same scene has rain puddles in the street in one shot but not in the next), but most of it is delightful and fun.as it was meant to be. Unlike me, it hasn't aged.Read full review

Entertaining 50's style movie. Astaire's movies in 50's do not contain as much of the elegant dance moves as earlier ones, but when he dances it shows his versatility much more.
