Saw II was scary just as the first. Loaded with new "games" and "tricks". Just as the first, this one gives an surprising ending. For me, this movie seemed to have more of a story plot than the first. It also goes back and gives a couple more hints about things that happened in the first and how they tie in perfectly with this movie. This time it is 8 strangers in one house trying to survive. Testing them just like he did in the first movie, Jigsaw has many ideas on how to "save" his victims. If you liked the first then I suggest watching this one too. Also will prepair you for Saw 3 (in post production right now).
Twisted!! How Much Blood Will You Shed To Stay Alive?!!
Allow me to begin this review by stating that I am in fact a fan of the original “SAW”. While being a great movie, one that certainly breathed a bit of fresh air into a then fairly stale market. Putting all of that aside there is one thing that I will hold true to saying about this sequel, it does not really feel like a sequel at all but more of a continuation of the first movie. Sitting down in the theatre, after the lights had gone out and the opening credits had displayed themselves, my eyes were treated to the first of JIGSAW’S sick games, and I was loving every moment of it. The editing and atmosphere presented within the first few minutes was practically identical to the first in everyway, grungy, sick, full of fast cuts and movements showing fright and anger all rolled up into one characters actions. The story presents itself a little differently in this one, with the biggest change being that Jigsaw is no longer trying to be as elusive or out of the spotlight, so to speak, as he was in the first one. This time he calls out Detective Eric Matthews (Mr. NKOTB himself Donnie Wahlberg) who had previously worked on the “JIGSAW” case. Yes it is true what you might have heard, a large chunk of the movie is spent switching between the progressing story of the 8 people trapped in a booby-trapped house, and an on-going conversation between JIGSAW and Detective Mason. But it has its reasons and certainly has its merits. The 8 people stuck together in the house, as you may have heard, are breathing in a very destructive nerve gas that they will only survive with an antidote. As with all of JIGSAW’S games though, it is in fact up to the players if they wish to live or die, all they have to do is shed a little blood and show they appreciate the life that has been given to them. So to end this review I will sum this all up into a very simple statement, If you are a fan of the original, you will not be disappointed, The movie has its twists and turns in plot and story, and keeps you guessing what’s going on.Read full review
Respect the 'R' rating on this one. Saw II is just as graphic if not more so than the original. But it's not the physical horror that will get you, it's the psychological thriller aspect of this feature that makes you pay attention to every second, awaiting with anticipation the fate of the characters. Many sequels fail to match what made the original feature unique... and I was beginning to think this was the case for this movie, but the suspenseful second half made up for it... If you've seen the original movie, SAW, and liked it, then you got to see this one!
Saw II is diffenitly better than the first one. It's got more characters in it and more suspense. It's a little confusing in the end so if you decide to watch it or buy it, watch it really good or you'll be like "what happened" lol. But this really is a good movie. I wouldn't recommend it for anybody under the age of 13...or anybody who isn't into scary movies. I bought it because I'd already seen the first one "SAW" and it was good as well. But I like scary movies and I figured since I liked the first one I'd like the second one as well. I'm looking forward to seeing a "SAW 3" I'm sure one will be made, because of the way the second one ended. If you like scary movies, get this one. It's not like really scary like someone chasing you trying to kill you movies. What its about is, like 7 or 8 people get locked inside a house that is filling up with gas. They have only a certain amount of time to get out or they will die. There are hints and stuff thru out the house to try and help them get out.....It's a game to see how much you value your life.Read full review
JIGSAW is BACK an BADDER Than EVER!!!
Sequels usually don't live up to their originals, but SAW II does that and more...
Jigsaw is BACK, so is the Music and the Mood. SAW II still offers the Jigsaw factor and the whole "Live or Die" complex that he brings, but it has a completely different feel to it.
Instead of two captives there are eight, all trying to find their way out of a deserted building. Jigsaw has set up quite a gauntlet of gruesome tests to see which captives deserve to live and which are better off dead.
Due to a larger budget, SAW II has more effects, more gruesome death sequences, a better set, and a larger cast of actors and actresses.
SAW II is more action packed than SAW I and less suspenseful, but that doesn't make it any worse than SAW I. I love the way SAW II is presented, and that it isn't the same format as SAW I.
One thing to keep in mind, this is an R-Rated movie for a reason, and if you thought the first SAE was gruesome, you ain't seen nothing yet.
Final Verdict:
5/5
Rent or Buy?: Definately BUY!!! I would've given it a 6/5 like I did SAW I, because it is that GOOD. But I felt that SAW I being the innovator deserved the extra rating point.
On a side note, make sure you watch SAW I before watching SAW II.
