This DVD collection is a brief account of the history of the WWE championship. If you're expecting a biography type presentation with matches as some of the extras, you'll be disappointed. This is more of a combination of brief recaps provided by Jim Ross, then some of the highlighted matches of the WWE championship. This doesn't really affect how entertaining it is, but some people might be turned off by the idea of just a sequence of matches. It would have been nice to see a documentary that features the detailed history of the title, plus some commentary from those who were part of the prestigous title's history. Pushing that aside, let's talk about the match selection. The match selection was good, but not completely great. While the matches present are entertaining - some of them are amazing! - they seemed to be ones that are really high profile. Being high profile matches basically means that they've been seen a hundred times over. I guess that's what happens, though, when you let the fans vote for the matches that should be put on the collection. The older matches featured are interesting because you'll get to see some superstars of days long past; perhaps some you've never seen wrestle before, like Killer Kowalski. Younger fans, fans of wrestling's more recent performances, might not be able to respect the classic matches, though. Instead, these fans might find these matches to be too slow and boring, and lacking a lot of high risk or intricate manuevers (there's a lot of kicking and punching - kind of like watching The Rock or Stone Cold wrestle. HA!). As the DVD progresses into the 80s and early 90s, the matches become ones that are widely available on other DVDs and collections. Several of the matches are the Wrestlmania matches featuring Hogan - we can get those on WrestleMania discs or Hogan discs, so why put them on here? One or two would make sense, such as the battle between Hogan and Warrior at WM 6. Progressing ahead, we get to see some more matches that are on other collections...such as Michaels vs Manking (on Michaels' From the Vault DVD) and the classic WM 12 iron man match between Hart and Michaels (which can be seen on the WM 12 disc, the From the Vault Michaels' collection and Hart's collection) - hasn't this match been featured enough already? While there are matches from other PPV events that haven't been widely featured, it would still have been nice to see matches from some of the lesser documented venues; there were some great matches not featured here. I hope you're not reading this and getting the impression that this DVD is awful. I enjoyed watching it! Seeing many matches that I had not seen before were enough to make this disc worthwhile, but I just feel like the match selection was a little under done. If the iron man match was ditched, there could have been several more matches added on. There are no extras on the disc, unfortunately. So while it's a little on the skimpy side, fans should still enjoy watching it. Hey, if you're younger or recently became a fan of wrestling, then there's a lot for you to see here. If you've followed wrestling for a while and seen all the WrestleManias (or own them) then you might be wishing for more. I recommend all wrestling fans watch it, but some of you should consider renting it or borrowing it before purchasing it, as you may find yourself disappointed.Read full review
Recently my 7 year old boy got this uncontrolable appetite for wrestling. Him and his little friends starting watching Raw and Smackdown on the televison, and much like me when I their age fell in love with it. Well I got tired of watching it with him and me mentioning a wrestler that I had watched like Hulk Hogan or Ultimate Warrior and him looking at me like I was speaking a foriegn language. Then he began buying the toy wrestlers and I would show him some of the old timers that they had for sell only to be looked at like I had something on my forhead. When I saw this DVD I thought what could be better than for him to see some of these older matches; AND it even included guys he knew already like the Undertaker and one or two others. My boy and I really enjoyed watching these together and I even saw some wrestlers that I had never seen before.Read full review
I purchased this DVD new from a well known chain store. Upon getting the DVD home I discovered it contained discs 3, 2, 3. They left out disc 1 and gave me an extra disc 3. After viewing the box the matches it offers just seems like old hash for those of us who have been collecting these DVD's and following wrestling. Wish WWE would dig a little deeper into their vaults. It's hard to get excited with repeats especially when your paying good money to purchase these. Best advice: Rent before you buy this.
It a good history of the WWF/WWE Championship from Buddy Rodgers all the way to John Cena
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
It is a real history of the WWE as a growing company and. Entertainment show. It misses many great matches but I guess you can only cover so many on the 3 DVD set. But the matches it covers are excellent from the early 70's to 2006.
