No matter how well you think you may know a public figure, there is always something new to read and consider. It is particularly important in an election year when the individual discussed in the biography is running in a political election. I feel that this book was well written and offers many references that I took the time to check. Words quoted are often taken out of context and can be used positively or negatively. The references I personally checked in this book were right on target. I consider this book a great read and an important read at this time. For Hillary fans, the book will encourage you to work harder for her in her run for the nomination. For those who are not Hillary fans, there is probably not much to move you in any way, but it is still a great read. For those who are on the fence about Hillary, maybe it will take you into a place where you can view a different side of this controversial individual. When I say controversial, please realize I'm referring to the issues of the primary campaign. All in all, I enjoyed this book. It offered a great deal of detail involving so many key figures in history. It was very easy to find myself as a person standing in a hallway or a room where powerful conversations took place. Or in private quarters where equally riveting events occured. I highly recommend this book to any reader who favors biographies, politics, the Clinton years, or Hillary, the person.Read full review
I enjoyed listening to audiobooks because my busy teaching schedule does not allow me to read as many books as I would like, but audiobooks in general, and this one in particular, allowed me to listen to it (i.e. Living History by Hillary Rodham Clinton) during my long commute to and from work. I like to "keep up" with and stay current with the world of politics (as well as many other areas), and I found this "book" very interesting, as Hillary Clinton is the front runner for the Democratic party. Hearing the book read by the author herself gave me a better sense of Clinton's passion for the issues she espouses and the factors (both past and relatively present)that impacted/impact her as a person, as a former first lady of the U.S., as a mother and wife, and as a potential president of the United States of America. Even though I own the book version, the audiobook version enabled me to hear the narrative much sooner during my mundane commutes to work and during other errands. Since people spend more time in their cars than they realize, they (like me) can listen to an audiobook and get informed, entertained, and enlightened while they drive to and fro. Audiobooks can make traffic and slow commutes a lot less frustrating. Ronald E. WalkerRead full review
One of the greatest women leaders for the past three decades in the US as well as in the world offers superb and candid insight into her ideals and struggles in politics and personally. This is the autobiographical text by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the public eagerly awaited. When it was published she was a US Senator and considering her candidacy for the office of US President. Dedicated to public service, Sec. Clinton is now serving Americans and the rest of the globe in such a way that it is much more communicative, peace-seeking, and respectful. This book clearly reveals how she has the wisdom and power to hold such an important office at one of the most challenging times in history. Instead of being primarily behind a White House desk bickering with the Congresses over legislation, Sec. Clinton is ever so quietly making key changes to repair that damage that has been done by the previous executive branch of the US government's Presidential adminstration. This book is certainly an admirable work that lives up to its title.Read full review
There's no doubt there was a "vast right-wing Conspiracy" to impeach her husband. But long before she wrote about it in her memoir, she did tell the public through the media. Too few people listened to her and voted for Bush instead. Then the "vast right-wing" which is not so vast as it would pretend to be, took the US down while it sunk to its lowest morality level that was ever made plainly public. I could say this is a lovely memoir by an 8 year, two term first lady. But Hillary was too active a politician to simply be called a first lady. It's obvious from her memoir Hillary Rodham Clinton was probably the first successful woman co-President of the US. US white men literally hate white women who are truly powerful and empowering of minority statused people. This is one of the underlying messages in Hillary's memoir. From her childhood in Chicago to her Harvard leadership, Hillary is candidly revealing her feelings. Even when she explains why she wanted to "wring Bill's neck," her dignity and political integrity shine brightly through the second term Senator's 562 page text. Often critiqued as a campaign book, I couldn't disagree with that assessment more. The plot is clearly to tell her living history as it was up to 2000. I can hardly wait for part 2. I have a feeling her best is yet to come because I bet Hillary will make Bill the first First Man in the White House!Read full review
The parts of this book that most grabbed my attention were when Sen. Clinton talked about the crushing way people in power are manipulated by special interest groups and/or opposing political parties. It really is quite something to get a peek into the world of mangled politics. Her point of view on these situations and the insight she shares really explains a lot about why nothing seems to ever get accomplished in Washington. I didn't expect to finish this book and actually like Hilary Clinton, but I did. Many of the tough decisions she has had to make are truly remarkable. It seriously takes a special kind of person with extraordinary strength and grace to filter your way through such deception and crush through gender barriers as she has had to do. Although I did find myself skimming through a few of the pages, overall it was very interesting, inspirational, and empowering. I'm very glad I read this book, if not to just learn more about Sen.Clinton, but just to learn more about politics in general. It's absurd craziness and I definitely recommend this book.Read full review
