I have had a copy of this book in my personal library for about 15 years. I bought it for my mother when she celebrated her 80th birthday. At that time she moved into my brother's home and was totally disrupting their household. This old country gal brought all the country roots with her and she was the prime example of what was to come in the writing of the poem "WARNING" within the pages of this book. My mother did not appreciate the book or my sense of humor, thought it was the worst thing anyone ever gave her, ridiculous, and she shook her head every time I'd mention the book or ask if she had read it. I have just turned 82 and mom is gon now for five years, I'm fast coming up on all the things she was and I dreaded becoming. I have shared these thoughts with many friends older and my same age, we've formed a Red Hat Society group and we celebrate our uniqueness every month at a cathering, the most favorite request is to read this poem "Warning" has become our promise and our badge of courage, we are our mothers after all! Recently I was at tha home of a client and noticed some new art work hanging above her desk in the office. There were several pictures from the other book I purchased for my mom, "If I Had My Life To Live Over, I'd Stop And Pick More Daisies", I commented on the works of all the women contributors to both of the bookd, my client had not heard of these books , she is over 80 and her friend was having a birthday soon, Doris thought it would be fun to get some second hand copies and have a reading roast for the birthday party for her friend. Doris asked me to get her a few copies to pas out among her guests, I gon on-line and started shopping. The e-bay service for used books in good condition is wonderful, but many older people do not have computers, so I was elected to do the purchasing, I found several copies from several sources and was successful in supplying the group with the necessary reading materials, most neded the large print editions which did not include the artwork that started the whole project in the first place. The sketches are profound and meaningful, we've had a great time together on Saturdays for the last three weeks, I've found someone that appreciates my sense of humor and my reading and skit about my mother spitting into the trashcan in my brother's living room when the minister and his wife came to pay a visit to see how mom was recovering from her broken pelvis...I have a great time and the irreverence for the reverand is appreciated too. It's okay that I make fun of the minister, I've had lots f experience, I'm a preacher's kid, mom was a preacher's wife and we all came from a family with five preachers that argued over every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, and I'm a minister too, so I know whereof I speak and I enjoy the memories and so does everyone else in the group. I know my mother is rolling her eyes at me and still spitting into a corner somewhere, and my Grandmother and Aunt Ola are doing the same thing, corncob pipes, butter churns, fishing poles and huge straw sun shade hats all nodding their heads and chuckling..."you're getting here soon too honey, we'll save you some lemonade and hoecakes!" This book is real and so are all the wonderful women that were the contributing writers, artists and publishers of this work, I find it very wonderful and will recommend it to real live women that are fighting the aging process, kicking and screaming all the way! I LOVE IT!Read full review
