Sounds great, but unfortunately, it is hard to find parts for nowadays. It used to be difficult when this product was in stores also, but now they're a bit more scarce. Anyway, still a great sound and while it runs slower than the old Zune 30 (because it's underclocked for better battery life), it sounds much better than that. The internal drive is apparently compatible with certain iPod Classic drives, so if it breaks, you can at least get a replacement easily enough and for a decent price.
Love- Zune, in my dictionary, is synonymous with love. I got this red, 80gb second generation one after my original brown, 30gb first generation bit the dust (which came used also, and was with me quite a while, considering). The screen is big, the design is classy, and best of all, it's not an iPod! Even since the first generation, Zune had features like a color screen, video playback and custom backgrounds, and now (call me crazy if I'm wrong, but...) the sound quality seems particularly boss. It can pump out a lot of sound through my Sennheisers, my stereo, or whatever it's hooked up to, and with the various EQ settings in the menu, it's easy to get the proper amount of bass that I want. A major selling-point in itself is the free Zune software that interfaces with the device. While, true, I'm bummed that the device is so guarded no one has been able to hack it yet to the extent that they can sync music in Linux, and the Zune software most likely won't run in Wine (Windows emulator for Linux), on Windows the software looks and works fantastic. It keeps track of a whole huge queue of albums as I'm right-clicking and syncing, and looks great on my desktop, switching into an elegant "artist slideshow" for major artists that shows pictures and relevant info, including total plays and bios. Dislikes- Admittedly, there are some problem areas. First, they stupidly added the click wheel functionality to the directional pad that made the iPod famous. This is a bit of a grey area for me though, because if you're walking away from an iPod, it might be nice, and it's a ritzy sort of a feature in general. I, however, just consider it another thing that could break, but for people like me, luckily there is the option to turn it off in the menu. Besides that, and the bizarre two-week incident during which my "Hold" switch didn't work (you'll be happy to know that it does work now), the battery life seems a bit on the short side. I believe the first generation Zunes were advertised as 8 hours of battery life during normal music playback. My old brown brick was almost capable of this, but (and to be fair, I haven't timed it or anything yet) the second gen that I own now doesn't seem to last nearly that long. Not that the battery life is, like, 2 minutes or anything, but even still, I don't want to have to charge it every 4 hours or so. Because I got the Zune factory refurbished, with (I believe) a new battery put it, I don't think it's because of wear on the battery. Conclusion- All-in-all, it was a great buy. I enjoy it, especially for the $80 price tag at which I got it (refurbished), and it's a great, sleek, classy alternative to the iPod with its own unique character and superior video playback. The juicy red color is an added plus, but I have to confess, at times I've been tempted to eat it.Read full review
This is an excellent MP3 player, the only reason it didn't get an excellent is poor customer service on the part of Zune. They do not want to even look at a Zune that has stopped playing unless you want to upgrade to a more expensive model. I'm very satisfied with the 80 gb. It is large so it needs a special carrying case to carry it around with you, but the screen is a very nice size to watch your videos and play games. All in all I give the Zune itself a 10, but the company a 5.
The capacity is wonderful, sound is good, but would like to have an equalizer. Still the Zune is a great mp3 player and much more. I like the large button in the middle to manuver by gliding your finger over it to take the sound up or down. The fact that you can view movies on it is a real plus and it automatically turns for the largest viewing. I had a Coby that didn't last 6 months, returned for repair and the battery totally died and I can't get it to do anything even after resetting and calling customer service. The one thing I didn't know nor did the customer service rep that I spoke with; was that if you have two Zunes on one computer it won't recognize a third. Hence, I pulled out my second laptop, downloaded the firmware and I've been walking on the treadmill 30+ minutes a day ever since. What a deal and in RED which Ihave been bidding on for a while now. Did I mention I LOVE Zune!!! iPod, Coby nor Nanos have nothing on my Zune(s). Wouldn't buy anything else. Not only can you listen to music, view movies & pictures, play games and buy music/movies on the market place, but you can even listen to the radio or play it thru your car radio with an aux cable and share your library with friends. That is a package deal!Read full review
It works great. The battery life was as described, not good. I replaced the battery with the new battery I purchased for my old Zune ( the broken one ) and now I get two days of battery life. Just what I needed and a reasonable price. Every other Zune on E Bay was way over priced.
