This is the Best example of British Comedy. Jennifer Saunders and Johanna Lumley. The best comedy dueo in my eyes. star as Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone who are two immature, prosperous, but preposterous substance-abusing fashion and fad-obsessed Londoners who value fame and style over substance (unless they are controlled substances). Saffron, Edina's daughter, provides the persistently dour voice of Monsoon and Stone's super-ego. Edina and Saffy live in a house in Holland Park, with Patsy spending most of her time there as well. The programme circles around Eddy's ongoing struggle to achieve fame, success and a slender figure amidst the disapproval of her daughter and the constant presence of her increasingly senile mother. Throughout, Patsy is at her side encouraging the behaviours that are constantly causing her conflict. Much of the comedy of the show is physical, usually derived from Edina and Patsy's drunken and/or stoned states, with their favourite drinks being Bolly Stolly (a cocktail of Bollinger champagne and Stolichnaya vodka) and later Veuve & Bourb (a mix of Veuve Clicquot champagne and bourbon) or Dom & Bom (a mix of Dom Perignon champagne and Bombay Sapphire gin). The mutual loathing between Saffy and Patsy, as each tries to guide Edina's behaviour, also makes for many comic situations. A recurring gag found new ways for Edina to fall headfirst out of cars, windows, or down her kitchen stairs at least once every series.Read full review
What do 2 rich girls + Alcohol + Illegal Drugs have in common? TROUBLE! This is an hilarious comedy about a single mother with a daughter and her hippy friend, and alllllll the trouble they get into. Not to spoil the plot so bare with me. One is a fashion designer, the other is a fashion victim, the daughter is a well educated girl, who actually rules the house. This is not really a show for minors to watch. I would say 15 and younger. It has drugs, sex talk, but no actual sex. Very adult comedy. You laugh all the way thru it.... If your a guy, wanting to know how girls live... HAHA This is a good way to see we arent as prime and proper as we seem. There is a reason this show went for 5 seasons. ITS AWSOME.... If you like friends or sex in the city, this is practically the same plus huge amounts of realistic comedy... We all know a girl or two that are JUST like these girls.... Its a easy comedy to relate to. Amelie PoulainRead full review
What a hoot. 2 British women- a former hippie, a former fashion diva - - but now it's 30 or so years later, and they never phased out of the 60's! It's hysterical - any baby-boomer would love it - - others, well, who knows - and gen Xers - well, just forget it - it's over your heads! I used to watch them on BBC, but since they are not on the air any longer, I've resorted to buying the DVDs. Timeless, very funny, and nothing else around quite like it! See it, and see! kats
I purchased this DVD for my husband's birthday. When we were dating, we used to watch this silly series about two mid-aged partyers who don't realize how ridiculous they are-we used to think it was a gut-buster and still do. Just the anticipation of giving it to him (his b.d. isn't till next week) is exciting-I know he'll love it-we can sit together and laugh together again and not worry about the world around us for just a few minutes.
I only bought cd set cause I tape every show on vhs ,,upgraded to this instead saving vhs ,,could had converted myself but didnt ,
