My life in Baseball (MLIB)was a very interesting, and at times insightful book. Some of Robin's insight on the "behind the scenes" of day to day baseball life as a major leaguer were both interesting, and at times, humorous. Robin's comments about the begining of the Players Association are also interesting. MLIB also held my interest in that it was not a recitation of scores and performances. Yes, some of this data was used but not to the point of distraction like some baseball books do. Overall, MLIB is an interesting look at baseball in the 1950's and 60's with the only downside being the difficulty I had in finding this book. It is well worth the cover price, maybe, even a little more as long as it is in excellent condition.
Robin Roberts was one the most dependable pitchers in baseball throughout his career and his story is told in the same deliberate style that he pitched. He played a significant role in the early days of the players' union, and helped secure Marvin Miller to represent the union. He recounts his glory days with the Phillies, and later days with the Orioles along with his player representative activities. A great player whose impact went beyond what happened on the field. Good reading.
