This coffee maker is great, but the clock has no illumination so it is almost illegible in low light, and you have to be careful that the basket is seated properly, which can be a little tricky, or it will overflow. I am happy with the purchase.

The time section is NOT LIGHTED. The box says you can pause and get a cup of coffee and continue brewing, but THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS on how to do this. The only instructions were how to plug it in and not to put the hot carafe on a cold surface or put cold water in a hot carafe. I am very disappointed in this Mr. Coffee coffee maker.

After my OTC coffee maker quit brewing mid cycle, I had to come up with a new one. I knew that I would be hard pressed to come up with another one of my space saver maker. The only one I believe to be available to the open market is not to my liking and would not fit in my location. I knew I wanted a Mr. Coffee, and probably one that fit up next to the back wall. So I went looking, and decided on this one. (albeit the red one)There wasn't one on display at any of the stores that carry this one, so I grabbed a box and looked it over. The description was to my liking, but not so much the clock. I don't know why they decided on not making this more visible, but I guess its not a feature that many have taken notice of when they buy a product like this one. After getting it home and plugging it in, and setting the controls, I filled it with bottled water and some good grounds and let my excitememt grow with each drip that filled the carafe. I've always been one that can't wait untilt the last drop, so I pulled out the carafe, and lo and behold, was dismayed at the amount of coffee brew that was streaming onto my hot plate. Saying a few choice words, I grabbed a nearby towel, and let the brown liquid be absorbed into the cloth. I've never had that problem with any of the other OTC coffee makers I've had. I noticed that it has a brew timer. I haven't decided what the prupose of that function is, but it does beep to let you know brewing is complete. Even after bewing, the steam from the water in the water resevior, will continue to be a nuisance and extremely hot when you go to lift the lid to empty the grounds basket. There is a selection button for making your coffee a bit stronger. I beleive it to be a slow down button for allowing the water to enter the basket, but don't quote me on that. The cord storage is rather unique. I'm glad someone finally thought of it. In the hole where the cord comes out, there is a slot/grove to keep the cord in its place. One more thing. I've never used the carafe to fill the water resevior, and maybe that's my fault, but when I filled it up to the desired mark on the tank and then noticed that the level of coffe made was not what it said it was. Not only is there a tank level mark, there is a white level step, on the inside. I assume they are both the same, but still doesn't matter as to the amount of coffee being made. You can not go any further than that because of slots on the back side of the unit that will spill water if you do. I believe this to be a good maker, but am a little disappointed in the overall features. I like the square design, and the ability to hide the extra cord in its place. I can't see givning the maker a 5 and not even sure about giving it a 4 , but don't think it deserves a 3. But do the good features out weigh the bad? P.S. I still haven't figured out how to pull out the carafe to keep it from spilling coffee on the hot plate.Read full review
Haven't even opened the box yet. I bought as a backup. When my present maker caputs,I will gladly offer a review. However, I bought this model because I haven't really had one similar. I always buy the regular "no frills" model. I like the automatic brew feature for setting up a time when it brews. This model is a little bit more fancy with features a regular pot doesn't offer. However all my pots have been the same manufacturer, Mr Coffee. Check back with me in about a year for a on hands/use review.
I have not had much luck with coffee makers in the past. I have had mostly Mr. Coffee brands because they look nice and are affordable. When my old Mr. Coffee gave out I went shopping for a decent, but inexpensive coffee maker, since I don't expect one to last more than a year, or so. The Mr. Coffee BVMC-SJX33GT fit my criteria so I bought it. I also reviewed it and found it had made the list of Consumer Report's best new products a couple years ago. It is well constructed and so easy to use. The design is simple but very functional. The access door opens to the right side, and that fits perfectly in my kitchen. Putting a new coffee filter in is a snap, with the easy lift out basket. It brews a great cup of coffee and the brewing time seems fairly fast. I like the feature that allows me to pour a cup of coffee while it is still brewing, and it will pause until I'm finished, then resumes brewing. Very considerate of it! I also like the way it looks. I'm a bachelor, and it looks kind of manly, I think. Although, I discovered my daughter has the exact same Mr. Coffee, and she likes how it looks in her kitchen, too. I've used it daily for several weeks now, and I'm hoping this Mr. Coffee lasts longer than my previous ones. I think it will. I like it so much, I'd hate to have to replace it. UPDATE: 5/15/2017 I have been using this coffee maker daily for two years now, and it has held up very well. I highly recommend it.Read full review
