This Husky IV tripod goes back to my student days in photography about 50 years ago. Of the many tripods I have owned, including the Hi-Boy Husky tripod (which was recommended at RIT back then). This one is my favorite. It is rare that I need the extra elevation of the fourth tube which the Hi-Boy legs have. This tripod was marketed by Soligor and perhaps a few other companies. When buying, be sure that the screw mount for the camera is included. That part can fall out a little too easily and it will be hard to find a piece with which to attach your camera. It is made better than Manfrotto, has the needed ratchet elevator, has a comfortable 3 directional head and is sturdy and not too heavy. A very stable tripod. The quality of Aluminum in this tripod has good resistance to sea-water where I photograph often. Look for one in which the upper cork on the head has relatively little wear. That will give you a very good idea of the condition and previous use of the tripod. This tripod is great for 5x7 down to the fine Canon cameras which i currently use. Even with a few little issues, it is a straight 5 rating. yosaif cohainRead full review

Quick service and a clean product for a vintage tripod. My favorite tripod after 38 years in the business.

This tripod is extremely sturdy and locks down tight. I use it for a monorail 4x5 in the field, and it's great for that. It has a pan-tilt head that I find perfect for framing and leveling a large camera, and weighs 8 lbs. It has 2 drawbacks, neither of which disturbs me, however: (1) the head is integral to the tripod (unlike modern tripods), so it can't be upgraded, and (b) the head has a non-quick-release 1/4-20 screw. But a quick-release can easily be added. Mine is made by Velbon. FLM, among others, also seems to make a very good (if expensive) one. For for a monorail large format camera, this tripod is hard to beat. For a lightweight field camera, or a DSLR, I'd recommend something lighter.

Sturdy enough to hold a medium format camera . The legs wear out where attached to the center , But I did use this extensively . The aluminum rubbed and wore out . I cut the bad part out and re-drilled the legs and I was at work again . The Black paint is "sweet" when new, but will scratch easily and look ugly till repainted .
