Just got the machine today, so can't say too much about it. My old machine was a 28-year-old Singer which still ran great, but I needed sewing capabilities for quilting and sewing garments and home dec projects. I researched several machines as I did not want to or have room for two machines for two different functions. The embroidery function is just an extra feature for me - don't know if I will get into that. So far, don't like the fact that the bobbin has to be wound on the top of the machine and the needle unthreaded to do so. My old machine wound the bobbin in place. Love the needle threader!!! It's quiet (somthing I'm not used to) and seems to have loads of stitches and several button hole styles. Once I get used to it, I'm sure it will be great.
This is the best machine ever! No problem w/ learning how to use it and being able to switch from embroidery to sewing so fast is a real time saver. It's almost impossible to mess up with all the bells and whistles that tell you what you need to do. Love the larger embroidery area and the ease of setting it up or changing thread. I've found my dream machine and got such a great deal on it. It's used but works like a brand new machine. Had a little problem with the Customizer 10000 loading but got that taken care of fairly quickly. I am a very happy customer and would recommend this machine to anyone who wants to do home embroidery.

This is one of the most fantastic machines on the market. Extremely user friendly even to a beginner. Even though I have several sewing machines and 1 other embroidery machine (Simplicity SE3) I felt it was time to expand our talents. I, along with my husband, researched many machines before purchasing the Janome MC9500. WOW..It is capable of so many different jobs all in one machine. Sewing, embroidery and quilting. At the current time, this is my favorite machine to do just about anything on. As long as you take the time to learn your machine, there is no limit as to what you can accomplish. The only function that I have a problem with is the hat hoop. This is only because I feel that there should be an easier way to do hats but I have yet to discover it. I am not going to let that stop me from using the machine to it's fullest capability..I have brought a few smiles with my creations so far and hope to continue to do so in the future. I am sure that anyone who is considering the purchase of an embroidery machine would be extremely pleased that they chose to start with this particular one. We also own a larger commercial embroidery machine so I feel comfortable in saying the the Janome MC9500 produces the same quality embroidery at a more affordable price..Don't be afraid to experiment with this machine. You will be totally amazed at the results.Read full review
I had checked out several Janome machines and for what I wanted to do, and for the price, the 9500 was best suited for me. It is a user friendly machine. I love the versatility of the embroidery program loaded on the machine. It also will accept memory cards and downloads off of your computer. It came with an instructional DVD which gives you the basics of each option on the machine. The place that I purchased the machine is an authorized Janome dealer and offered me free classes on my particular machine. I do not know if that is standard for dealers or just the particular one I dealt with. To be able to use one machine for regular or decorative sewing is such a blessing when you have limited space to do your craft. The only downside I encountered was with the embroidery program only taking .sew and .jef files. I did not have a program to open these files and had to purchase one. After that I have enjoyed many hours creating new items for my home and family. I would recomend the 9500 to anyone wanting to venture into embroidery at a reasonable cost.Read full review
I bought this product for the ease of embroidery compared to other models and ease of changing from sewing to embroidery without the bulky attachment. I like the automatic threader. The bobbin winding was not very good, but prewound bobbins are available. The bobbin winding was uneven and broke the thread while winding. Compared to the Brother Innovis 2800D, I found this machine lacking. The Brother can be hooked directly to a computer whereas this machine cannot. You must use outside software that is very expensive to transfer embroidery patterns to the machine. Also the Brother Innovis comes with 3 sizes of embroidery hoops, this comes with only 2 and you may buy a 3rd bigger hoop at an expensive price tag.
