This is a replacement as my previous copy was battered & I decided to replace it while copies are available. This is an EXCELLENT small meal cookbook. The instructions are straightforward and clear. I'm single, have made most of the recipes, and every one of them worked. The ingredients are not exotic, I could find everything while living in Inuvik, NT, Canada before Internet shopping, I've been using it that long! The pictures complement the recipes and assist the cooking. I recommend: the cheese soufflé with mushroom sauce (my first soufflé, yummy & easy & impressive; the stuffed Cornish Hens, but not when you're brother's dropping by, unless you intend to feed him, I speak from experience it can get ugly; the two meals from one all worked exactly as promised, anything with the word "salad" in it, which is rare. Could go on but now I'm hungry. Buy the book. If you can't find a copy then I give you permission to badger BH&G to get it reprinted. Which they should because it would be an excellent housewarming gift to anyone starting new homes: Students, newlyweds, RVers...... YOU READING THIS, BH&G? The only problem I experienced is that the book isn't waterproof. You might want to keep that in mind BEFORE you knock over a jug of milk.Read full review
I've bought this book now three times now so that should tell you how I feel about this book. I originally bought the book in 1978, when I graduated from college and needed to cook for myself. Then my husband lend it to an aspiring baseball player in Huntsville who never returned it so I had to find this in again in 1991. Later I loaned it to a friend, and it disappeared from his house. So here I am again, buying my favorite cookbook. I love the recipes. I keep finding myself coming back and trying recipes I hadn't used when I was younger. Getting porportions for one or two right can be a challenge. I'm always grateful for advice my great-aunt gave me about taking time to cook well for yourself when you're single. It is a gift to sit down to a nice table, a good meal with a glass of wine and appreciate the bounty of life and just unwind.Read full review
