Ver rarely do I get thrilled by a new band - seen too many to be surprised! However, NATW blew me away with their new album, Peaceful... Filled with quirky, foot tapping and thought provoking songs, with intelligent lyrics and catchy melodies... to describe this as 'folk' would be a mistake... I heard Pulp and early James in this album and one that sits comfortably in my eclectic collection. Its difficult to pick stand outs from the 11 tracks, obviously 5 Years Time, Shape of my heart and Give a little love are the obvious singles but the title track, Peaceful the world lays me Down should not be overlooked along with Jocasta... A great, great album - I'm gutted I will be moving to Australia in a few weeks and will miss their autumn tour... gutted!!
I don't know why I bloody do this because no-one seems to read these reviews. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned this is a strange album to review. Why? Because it has one, great summer hit, "Five Years Time" & another obvious single, "Shape Of My Heart". After that, what does it offer. Not sure. The "alternatives" may love the whole damn thing but I don't. Will continue to listen but, compared to Attic Lights, it doesn't hold a candle.
Cool album. Quirky melodic folk based sounds. Innovative and with that melancholic, whimsical way I like.
It is chilled & easy to listen to. It isn't an instant favourite but I think I'll be listening to it in years to come. He has a great voice.
