Good film depicting how the trench war wore men down until they couldn't take it anymore. The the officers who sat in comfortable settings, drinking wine, and pointing at a map concluded they should take this or that. They had no idea of what the soldiers endured.

This looks like a movie made in 1950 about soldiers who must fight a war they don't believe in and under the command of complete idiots, I cannot believe that a very good director like Stanley Kubrick did such a terrible movie, plus it's in black and white, if it was in color - as is natural in these times - the movie might have few positives, but as it is, it's really horrible, I threw away my money by buying it and if I gift it to someone else, I only do to upset the receiver.

"Paths of Glory," one of Stanley Kubrick's earliest films, remains a classic war film. By our contemporary standards, it might appear a bit primitive. In its day, it was controversial, having offended French sensibilities for its depiction of the arrogance and corruption of French high command during World War One's trench warfare, and the related indifference to the plight of the common soldier. For any fans of Kubrick's more recent "Full Metal Jacket" who've not seen the earlier film, it is a very good look at how a younger Kubrick viewed war, and how he matured into making the later film.
This is a powerful War Drama that takes place during World War 1, known at the time as The Great War. It is an artistic, cinematic and directorial gem directed by Kubrick. I limited my rating to 4 stars more due to the depressing nature of the true events that the movie dep8cts, than the quality of the film.
