The fabulous thing about reading any of the books in Rice's Vampire Chronicles is that you can pick up anywhere. You do not have to start with her first book and work your way through. You can start in the "middle" and work backward, forward, or jump all around. Although each new installment brings in characters from other novels, you need not have read any of the other book to get involved. Each book stands alone. Anne Rice's vampires typically have great depth and the ones in this book are no exception. As always, you get a book full of characters whose histories are well developed and rich. You get to know the characters and, although they are vampires, you identify with them. As you read through, you develop relationships with them. That is what compells you to keep turning the pages. The detail with which Rice writes is not lost in any area. From her descrptions of how paints were prepared to her depiction of Armand's creation, you see it in your mind as you read. The story of Armand is an amazing journey. When you have turned the final page, you will miss his company already. This book will leave you wanting more.Read full review

This book came so well packaged I felt like I was opening my first Halloween Present! I loved this novel & everything Anne Rice has done since I first discovered The Witching Hour. This book will be treasured in the regrowth of my personal library.

Ever since his introduction in Interview With The Vampire, I've been enamored with the character of Armand. This book is his story from slave boy to modern-day vampire. Follow Armand on his journey from a slave to a pupil to a vampire to a cult leader and on to present day. Every detail is here in this book. It's an excellent read and I highly recommend it - even if you haven't read the other vampire chronicles books by Anne Rice.
