First of all, i'm not quite certain the review is about the book in the title. Weird Tales 1990 paperback, I have never purchased. But I do have a 1990 Weird Tales Hardcover. I have had only the time to read two short stories within these pages. Skulls in the Stars by Howard, was a pleasant first dive into the book, and I think in so few words, really gives the "feel" of Howard's world. Howard is full of tones, that make you feel like your there, and twists that just come together with precision. When you thought near the end, there were not enough words to complete the story, suddenly, it's complete. You may find yourself reading over many sentences, not because you didn't understand what they meant, they have a certain regality, ways of saying things that just read so well you have to read them over,... The second short tale I read was by Lovecraft, HE , another story that once you start reading, you can't stop. It drags you in deeper and deeper and by the second page, you have to finish the remaining, and because of how it flows, doesn't take very long. Smooth flowing and most visual. If any of the other yarns are the likes of either of these, this book is well worth the journey, and a great deal as well. A great distraction for those moments when you don't have a lot of time to commit to a novel. I hope this is the book to which the title refers. Check the contents to make sure they contain these stories for this review to be valid. (Skulls in the Stars/Howard & HE/Lovecraft)Read full review
