I bought this video because a coworker's father, a man from Eastport, Maine, was one of the stretcher bearer in the scene when FDR is carried from the boat to the train. The story and period of history are familiar to me. The movie is dated in terms of music, costumes, and acting style, but it is well done for its time period. The one jarring note was the way Eleanor Roosevelt was portrayed. She was far too pretty, chirpy, motherly, and subservient to portray the real Eleanor R well. The issue of FDR's unfaithfulness in marriage was hinted at, but glossed over entirely. This is a shame because this event was a turning point for ER, in terms of coming out of her shell and entering public life. I did like the way FDR in the film says that the experience of polio made him a more compassionate person. This too was central to his policy making as president. Read full review

Can't go wrong with any movie that has Greer Garson in it. Ralph Bellamy was an added delight.

This is a classic about FDR but has become difficult to see. Online streaming sites have stopped keeping some of these very old movies. They will soon be all but lost or available at inflated costs as they become more rare. I could not resist ordering this DVD. If anyone has some love for some of the real classic movies, get them now or miss the chance.
