Although I enjoyed Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women," I was rather disappointed with "Under the Lilacs." I found the general plot to be rather slow-moving, and her writing style seemed unusually dry. She repeated the same vocabulary, such as "droll," over and over, which made for monotonous reading. I did not altogether dislike the book, just found it boring when compared with other classics. I would, however, still reccommend it to those who have enjoyed her other works, such as "Eight Cousins" or "Rose in Full Bloom." Twelve to fifteen-year-olds will probably enjoy it the most.
