What I like about this book is that it is a concise, honest giude to writing short stories for publication, showing what one should and shouldn't do in the process, from creation to publication. This book tells, using guidance and advice from those who have written such stories and have had them published, and their advice is not to be taken lightly. I purchased this book because I have some story ideas, which I have shown to a friend of mine, and she suggested I could write at least one of them into a story for publication, and I wish to learn the subject matter from those who know, so that I may find satisfaction - not success or acclaim, but satisfaction.
Not only does Smythe Dickson give you the formula for writing short stories. She gives you her heart and explains in way that someone successful in the business of writing would think, so as not to lose their motivation for trying to write a good book. I first read this book when I bought a writers digest writing course. I now buy whatever copies I can find when I want to give one to a friend who keeps a diary, or has problems, and I can motivate to make a story out of their experiences. Adding fiction to the reality of it, often helps to soften the blow of reality.
I’m writing a short story right now, so this might be very helpful!
