I had read that the older edition of Sibley's had larger bird pictures then the newer. I'm glad I got this as I would hate to see the pictures any smaller. This is great for my backyard birding. Plus, this was an old library edition that was in very good shape; however, I didn't know that when I purchased it. Would have been nice to know as I felt compelled to remove all the library stick-on's, but it turned out not to be a big deal. Just used Goo Gone on it as the book had a slick coating that wasn't ruined by the moist Goo Gone.

Illustrations capture overall look of the bird; thorough descriptions that cover distinctive features, habitat, and voice; maps are good; great illustrations of bird body parts using multiple families; like the family plates at the beginning of each section; not light, but there are heavier guides

I have many bird books, but this one seems to include more in the Western Region than my others. The ID and explanations are helpful for beginners or seasoned birders. Good picture ID's, also. This one seems to be favored by many birders, and I can see why.

This is an excellent book because it is very thurrough. Sibley made sure each bird showed both male and female, juvenile, inflight and other stages of a birds life cycle. While spending a weekend at Camp Cady, (Fishe & Game preserve near Barstow) I saw 18 different species of birds and was able to identify each one using this field guide book on North American birds. The only draw back is the birds are very small, but I understand to publish a book we can use in the field with this many birds, the images had to be rather small.
This was a copy for a friend. I have enjoyed the Sibley for years.
