931 pages of helping me understand the Aramaic, Hebrew and Jewish traditions, sayings, theology and understandings which were known by the people Jesus taught and therefore used in their understanding of what He taught. There is so much more to the original context than what we English speakers normally associate with words and terms such as faith, peace or shalom, the eye, kingdom of heaven, end times, apostles, and hundreds of others. It put the Old and New Testaments together in a solid way for me. It's not uncommon for Stern to present several translations of a verse and then explain why and what he thinks is the correct understanding as he bring in these traditions. Occasionally he also expands a term to explain various Christian religious traditions such as Methodist, Lutheran, Catholic and again how this fits into Jesus' traditional understandings. I have had the book 13 years and wish I had this many years earlier. It was originally recommended by a friend. I have shared it with friends who have found it likewise to be very valuable. It is one of my top three most frequently used Bible references. When you get it, read a chapter in Matthew, then read the JNTC comments on that chapter. Work your way through Matthew to get some basic understanding. It is well indexed with 67 pages. I learned to highlight one or two key references for a word in the index. For example "adoption" has 24 pages referenced, but I highlighted page number 383 as that gives a definition most meaningful to me. Also I have added some index words and added some Old Testament verse references. For example I added "authority" with reference pages 10, 64, 87-88, 913 and comment see "ordination". I highlighted page number 64. This is an excellent Bible reference and it greatly expanded my thinking and understanding.Read full review

The Jewish New Testament, prepared and translated by Messianic Jews, is a wonderul and lively translation. This companion book illuminates many more aspects of Jewish life in Christ's time. It is a great aid to the reader in understanding the rituals, practices and religion of the Savior as He practiced it in His Life. For Christians, this insight is invaluable in giving dimension and depth to the New Testament and to one's comprehension of the teachings and lifestyle of the New Testament.
Wealth of knowledge in the pages of one book. This book explains in detail every verse and every book of the New Testament. Dr. David Stern passed away last year but he left us so much wisdom and knowledge in his writing.
