This was bought as an end of the year present for our 4/5 year old preschoolers heading to kindergarten. We thought it would make a great gift to give them as they headed to "big" school.

In this take on The Night Before Christmas, a family packs up for a summer vacation. After they finally pack and get ready, they dream of marshmallows over a campfire (in place of visions of sugarplums). They leave and realize they forgot a kid, so they go back to get him. The trip is off to a slow start, but they finally make it to the road by the end of the story. Kids who know the original story will really enjoy the parody of it, and kids who aren't familiar with it will like the rhyme scheme of this story. It reads smoothly despite the unfamiliar summer theme, and it is enjoyable for all to look at and read. A great book for preschool and the primary grades.
Great book for grandchildren to read and enjoy before going on vacation
