I use SanDisk Extreme micro SDHC memory cards for rugged media data backup. I format the device with NTFS 32KB cluster allocation size. NTFS is more reliable than FAT32, and supports file protection, compression and encryption. I upgraded from SanDisk Ultra to SanDIsk Extreme for faster backup speed. I keep one micro SDHC memory card in my PC for automatic file backup, and I keep another recent copy in a fireproof safe for emergency backup. I kept one micro SDHC in a hidden location in my vehicle for 2 years, during Colorado winters and summers. Temperatures ranged from -10F or lower to +120F or higher in the vehicle. After 2 years in this harsh environment, I tested the files and they all worked fine. Rugged storage media will survive where a hard disk will not.
