Francine Rivers' book entitled "Unveiled" and the rest in this series "Lineage of Grace" is very well written and researched. Anything written by this author is thoroughly researched and yet still easy to read. I find it very hard to put down any of Ms. Rivers' works and I have read and reread her works countless times. A word of warning: Do not read any of her books if you are trying to fall asleep at night. These are definite page turners full of intrigue, insight, and intense subjects. Some even require a box of tissues! Happy Reading!
This is the first book in the Lineage of Grace series by Francine Rivers; the fictionalized story of Tamar. Interesting to consider what may have been going through her head as she watched two young husbands die and THEN her father-in-law (Judah) sends her packing back home to wait for youngest son to be old enough to marry her. The law that said a brother marries a dead brother's childless widow (practiced by both the Hebrews and Canaanites), certainly puts wedding practices into new perspective. Rivers weaves the story so beautifully and tactfully addresses the issue of marital love between two people "forced" into marriage. Although this is a fictionalized version of the story, Rivers is faithful to the Holy Scriptures to the utmost. Of course we don't know the exact words that were said between Judah and Tamar or others, but Rivers keeps it all sensible and believeable. The book includes the Bible's words (in a separate section) along with a study-group guide with loads of questions to lead participants to more depth. Highly recommended. I read this to my 11 y.o. daughter who was on the edge of her seat, wondering what the next thing would be (even though she's familiar with the Biblical account). Extremely well-written.Read full review
I read a lot of Christian fictional novels and Francine Rivers is by far my favorite author. Her books are believable, exciting, and very entertaining. What I most enjoyed about the novellas about the women of the bible was that she made the characters come to life. It's pretty amazing to read the stories of the women in the lineage of Jesus Christ and realize that they were just regular women like us all but God used their lives for a great purpose. I highly recommend these books. You will enjoy them all.
The story of Tamar in the lineage of Jesus, is the first of five novelas. It was a great easy short read. The bible study in the back of the book that co-ordinates with her story is interesting too. Rivers has an easy flow of realism in her books. Then the study draws you to apply to today. Tamar woman of HOPE. Your heart will ache for her....and rejoice. Clever, beautiful, loyal, obedient....you will join her in so much biblical drama, you will want a pair of boots to put on to just kick Judah!!!...get a cup of coffee and enjoy !!!...don't forget the boots!!!
This was a good novella. Provides an insight into Tamar's life. It is biblically based, easy to read, and gives an interesting viewpoint to a character that isn't that well known. The best thing is that it provides an application to out current everyday life.
