After discovering the new CD "Dangerous Game" by Mary Weiss, and visiting her websites, I successfully added her, Shadow Morton and Norton Records to MySpace friends. While visiting Shadow's website I discovered "The Red Bird Story". I was unaware that it actually came out back in 1987 and was reissued several times. The latest Red Bird Story is a 3-CD box set with a very interesting and informative 36 page booklet which tells the history of Tiger, Daisy, Red Bird and Blue Cat records. CD#1 has 30 of the greatest hits, including the Dixie Cups, Jelly Beans, Butterflys, and the Shangri Las plus many other solo artists and groups, most of which charted. CD#2 covers the period when legal problems caused the collapse of the Red Bird label and its subsidiaries. CD#3 has some of the rarest and obscure recordings from the vaults, some Doo Wop, blues, and a lot of soul as well. Each CD has 30 tracks and range from 72 minutes to a jammed full 78 minutes. The three CDs contain about 4 hours and 20 minutes of great music, 90 tracks in all, some of it previously unreleased material. This set is a must for the serious collector, and due to its historic significance, it should be in every public and school library. Thanks to eBay we can find these treasures that aren't always available in stores.Read full review
